The Odua Descendants Union of Washington State is a vibrant, dynamic community of Yoruba descendants united by a shared heritage, cultural pride, and a collective vision of progress.
Deeply rooted in the rich traditions of the Yoruba people, we are committed to preserving our language, arts, and customs while building a strong, interconnected community in Washington State and beyond.
Our Goals
- Advocacy and Representation:
ODU serves as a unified voice advocating for Yoruba descendants' interests and contributions at local, state, and national levels. - Cultural Exchange: Organize events and partnerships that promote cross-cultural understanding and mutual respect between Yoruba people and other communities in Washington State.
- Global Yoruba Connections: Build and strengthen relationships with Yoruba organizations worldwide, facilitating resource sharing and collaborative global initiatives.
- Celebrating Achievements: Highlight and celebrate the successes of Yoruba individuals, inspiring others and enhancing the visibility of Yoruba contributions to society.

Through educational programs, cultural celebrations, and collaborative initiatives, we strive to strengthen our community and create a lasting, positive impact.
Aim Statement:
We aim to build a vibrant community for Yoruba descendants in Washington State by promoting unity, preserving our rich cultural heritage, and fostering mutual support for personal and collective growth.


Member Benefits:
- Cultural Preservation and Education: Through Summer Kids Yoruba classes on Zoom; our Youth are taught Foundational Yoruba.
- Networking Opportunities: Members can join dedicated WhatsApp Group for Business and Social networking.
- Community Support Services: ODU offers mentorship for youths, and support during life events (e.g., weddings, naming ceremonies, or bereavements), thereby fostering unity and mutual aid within the community.
- Event Participation and Discounts: Summer Picnics and periodic events are organized that are beneficial to members.
- Advocacy and Representation: By been a voice in local and regional matters affecting Yoruba people, with the organization advocating for their interests in various public or cultural domains.
