Our Constitution

The revised bylaws of the Odua Descendants Union of Washington State, ratified in August 2024, provide a comprehensive framework for the organization’s governance. They emphasize the promotion of Yoruba culture and heritage through education, social interaction, and collaboration with sister organizations. Membership is open to individuals of Yoruba heritage, their spouses, and relatives, with provisions for honorary memberships based on contributions to the organization. Officers, including the President, Vice President, Treasurer, and others, have defined roles and responsibilities, ensuring efficient operations and accountability. Elections are held in-person by secret ballot, with terms lasting two years and restrictions on consecutive re-elections.
The bylaws outline financial administration, requiring detailed budgeting, audits, and transparency in the use of funds. Regular and special meetings are to be conducted in Yoruba and/or English, with clear protocols for voting, quorum, and notifications. Conflict of interest policies and resolution mechanisms are specified to safeguard the organization's integrity. Committees are established for tasks like membership recruitment, elections, and program development, ensuring member involvement. Lastly, the bylaws prioritize adherence to legal standards and include provisions for amendments, ensuring they remain relevant to the organization’s goals.
